The Leeuwin Youth Leadership Program is run by the Western Australian Department of Indigenous Affairs in partnership with Fugro-TSM. The program offers Western Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders (aged 14 to 25 years old) the opportunity to become a participant on a Leeuwin Youth Leadership Program and join in one of the last true ocean adventures.
This program will offer young Indigenous persons a challenging life experience onboard Australia’s largest dedicated sail training tall ship, Leeuwin II.
The purpose of this program is to ensure that young Indigenous persons are supported in their leadership aspirations, through the development of their communication skills, the understanding of teamwork and recognising the importance of a strong sense of community.
The Leeuwin II is a working ship, which means that everyone on board is required to participate fully in the daily operations of the ship such as cleaning, galley duties, night watches and haulling lines.
Seven days on the high seas, working with people from a range of communities will be a truly unique experience, and one that will serve to build their confidence and leadership qualities.
Fugro-TSM are extremely proud to participate in this program with the next voyage planned for early 2012. For more information download the Leeuwin Youth Leadership Program Application Package (PDF document) or visit the Department of Indigenous Affairs Website.
